New Mexico Baptist Children's Home (NMBCH) has learned that former Executive Director David Randall "Randy" Rankin has been sentenced following a plea agreement reached with the State of New Mexico. The charges against Mr. Rankin were financial in nature and related to his employment with NMBCH. He was sentenced to seven years in prison and five years of probation; in addition, he agreed to return stolen property and issued a written apology to NMBCH.
"We are thankful to see the legal process reach a resolution that acknowledges the seriousness of this matter," said Serenity Richard, Executive Director of NMBCH. "While no legal outcome can undo the harm caused, this agreement allows us to move forward and stay fully focused on the ministry to children and families who need us most."
NMBCH continues to provide hope and care through Residential Care, Bridge to Hope (CJC), Hope Counseling, and Adoption Services. Plans are underway to expand support for children and families from hard places in the coming year.
The Home wishes to thank the Portales Police Department and the Roosevelt County District Attorney's Office for their diligent work. NMBCH also expresses heartfelt gratitude to its community and supporters statewide who have prayed, encouraged, and rallied around the ministry.
"Our mission is clear," said Richard. "We exist to bring hope to hurting children and families, and that will not change."
