On October 11, what began as a simple trip to Springer, NM for our Fall Food Drive became a vivid reminder of God’s protection and the strength of community.
Just north of Logan, the ball joint on the van driven by Lon Graham, vice president, broke unexpectedly. The front wheel locked, sending the van skidding to the side of the highway and leaving it facing the wrong direction. Had another car been coming, the outcome could have been tragic. But by God’s grace, everyone walked away unharmed.
Immediately, staff members and friends stepped in—arranging a tow, offering rides, and ensuring the food still reached its destination. It took many people and much coordination to overcome that one unexpected event, reminding us how vital a caring community can be.
Later, the team reflected that this moment mirrors what so many children and families experience daily: crises they did not plan for, could not foresee, and cannot navigate alone.
That’s why New Mexico Baptist Children’s Home and Family Ministries exists—to meet families in their moments of crisis, offering safety, counseling, and care in the name of Christ. Just as the van will be repaired and the food delivered because others stepped in to help, the lives of children and families across New Mexico are being restored because of faithful supporters whose prayers, giving, and compassion make restoration possible.
Since 1919, NMBCH has stood in the gap for vulnerable children and struggling families. The same spirit that began more than a century ago continues today through the generosity and faith of people who believe no child should feel forgotten.
