Emily Crook, Administrative Assistant
Over the past year sitting at my desk at the New Mexico Baptist Children's Home, I've gained a unique perspective on our ministry. Processing papers, letters, and donations may seem simple, but, through them, I've come to know the hearts of our donors not only in New Mexico, but across the nation. Even though I don't often meet them face-to-face, their gifts tell stories that touch my heart.
I've started to notice the small details, such as handwriting, tributes, and notes that are included with gifts. They may seem ordinary, but they reveal extraordinary faithfulness. A story I see often that sticks with me is one of a husband and wife who give faithfully for years together. After the passing of one, the other continues to give in memory of their loved one. What a beautiful picture of devotion and care.
I've seen passions come alive through the causes people support. Whether the donations are designed for sports equipment, bicycles, or fresh produce for our cottages, each gift reflects the heart of our donors who want to bless the children God has placed here.
There are so many moments that have moved me profoundly. I've watched handwriting change with age, and yet those supports still remember our ministry and continue to give. I've read letters that celebrate marriages, birthdays, and milestones, alongside others that share grief and loss. One I will never forget came from an eight-year-old girl who donated her earnings from helping her mom clean. Her selflessness at such a young age reveals a generosity beyond her years and shows the values instilled in her at home.
Every gift carries with it a story of faith and sacrifice. Sitting at my desk, I've realized I'm not just processing donations. I'm witnessing God's calling on people's lives. I am grateful for the privilege of learning our donors' stories and look forward to continuing to get to know them better as my work goes on.
