The Thanks for Giving Season

by Dana Philips

The leaves are falling, there is a chill in the air, and the smell of a fire burning in a fireplace nearby - all signs of the changing season. Soon we will be gathering together around a table loaded with mashed potatoes, roasted vegetables, and a perfectly golden turkey. As we sip our after-dinner coffee and devour the pumpkin pie, we will take time to reflect on all the things we are thankful for this year.

At New Mexico Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries, we too will list the things for which we are thankful. At the top of the list will be the gift of salvation from our Lord and Savior. We are grateful for the many ways the Lord has cared for and provided for this ministry. Before there was a toilet paper shortage, our faithful donors had already provided all the paper goods we would need.  As in school classes turned to on-line classes our houseparents and staff were prepared. As the Fountaingate - Alamogordo Campus is preparing to welcome children to its homes, local volunteers showed up to help by providing materials and labor. We are so thankful for those who support this ministry with their prayers, their time, and their dollars. Every light turned on, every meal cooked, and every child clothed can be done because of our loving, faithful supporters.

After the Thanksgiving meal follows the gift wrapping, but between the two is a special time of giving. GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. This worldwide day of giving began in 2012 and has grown over the years to provide much need support for non-profits around the world. NMBCH will be participating in GivingTuesday on December 1, 2020. Our goal is to raise $30,000 in 24 hours to go toward resources needed by our children and family ministries.

There are several ways you can be involved on December 1st. You can visit our website and give on that day, or you can create a peer-to-peer page and invite your family and friends to help you raise funds to provide resources for our children and family ministries. Finally, please help us spread the word by telling others about NM Baptist Children's Home & Family Ministries. Click here to see how you can be apart of GivingTuesday 2020.

During this Thanks for Giving season, we say "Thank you for giving to NM Baptist Children's Home." Without you, our faithful supporters, we would not be able to help hurting children and families. Happy "Thanks for Giving!"
